Who To Hire When Starting Your New Construction Project?

First things first, hire your interior designer! We’re not just saying this because that is what we do but because as designers we believe in high functioning, cohesive designs that flow seamlessly throughout your home. Hiring your interior designer first will save you endless time and tons of headaches by helping you create a clear vision on both interior and exterior finishes from the start.

We personally love to sit down with our clients and start creating their dream home from the outside, in! This allows us to help them realize what they are looking for before they hand the reins over to their architect. Collaborating with your interior designer first ensures your architect is working toward your vision and not solely theirs.  The inspiration boards designers create for your architect will then speak fluently with your hard and soft finishes (you know, the things us designers select!). We can help you understand that you want the kitchen in the back of the house to allow for more privacy and for easy access to the backyard for entertaining season or that you love arched doorways or think oversized pivot front doors are dreamy! This is important to decide now because architects are just as passionate about their design as interior designers are… so much so that most of the time it is hard to get an architect to change plans once they are drawn. Other examples of things we nail down include your color palette - if you dream of a light and airy space but the builder and architect have selected black framed windows and gray siding then this will not lend to the style you are after and therefore result in your exterior look and feel not representing the space where you spend your day to day life. Starting to agree with us?! In short, your interior designer wants to create the whole package, that you are then able to take to an architect and builder to give them inspiration along with your wants and needs, creating the cohesive, functional home of your dreams!

Now you can hire your architect and you will be able to hand over a well organized document highlighting your favorite elements, which allows your architect to get to work with a clear vision, saving time and money on revisions. Once the architects’ plans are completed then you can find a builder. At this point your interior designers will be eager to circle back in and finalize selections on all the hard and soft finishes. Once construction begins we visit your site weekly to communicate with your builder on the designs we completed to ensure they are executed exactly the way they were intended to be!

Last but not least, (the most fun part - in our humble opinions) install day!!  Once your dream home is complete, as your interior designers we will place all of the soft furnishings. For a more dramatic effect it is always nice for you as the client not to be present for this process and ultimately walk into your completely styled and furnished home where all that’s left to do is put your feet up…after you’ve put your clothes and groceries away of course!
